Accountability Act (HIPPA). HIPAA regulations are overseen and enforced
by the Office for Civil Rights of the Department of Health and Human
Services. HIPAA’s privacy rule has an important goal to protect health
information while allowing for the flow of health information. Privacy
regulations under HIPPA concern how personal information is used and
disclosed. Protected health information (PHI) is defined as
“individually identifiable health information that is transmitted by
electronic media, maintained in electronic media, or transmitted or
maintained in any other form or medium” (45 CFR 160.103).References:Sue (2017). Introduction to Healthcare Informatics, Second Edition

I want to teach you about the Security Rule. Protection against medical
identity theft is one consideration discussed in the textbook in
Chapter 12, pg. 380. Patients need to know that they can trust our
database program with their sensitive information. The security rule has
required standards, such as, “required and addressable implementation
specifications intended to provide covered entities and business
associates with flexible solutions and alternatives for complying with
the standards.” The Security Rule outlines regulations that include
administrative, technical, and potential risks to ePHI. But there is of
course risk! So there are penalties and enforcement for not complying
with the rule. Reference:Book:Sue. (n.d.). Introduction to Healthcare Formatics, Second Edition.
